Back then it was the type of company I felt I could work for, and be proud to work for. I don't know if they kept up the great work and good customer relationship, but I was really impressed by Shaw. This is in stark contrast with the OTHER ten ISPs I dealt with in the same way. :-) Behind the scenes back at Shaw headquarters everybody there actually seemed to care deeply about the customer experience. We did onsite customer visits to watch the customers install the broadband, and the customers would actually turn to the technician doing the installation and say "I love Shaw, thank you for doing such a good job." I thought I was being punked or it was some sort of staged act, I even looked for hidden cameras. When I was working with an ISP in Canada called "Shaw", it came out that they were LOVED by their customers, and were the first well run ISP I have ever met who really wanted the best for their customers. Random ISP story: Years ago (2001) at a previous company I wrote installer software for broadband companies. I'm baffled why they don't want to just do a good job (deliver more bandwidth faster and cheaper and stop trying to cheat their customers). ![]() Most ISPs in the USA are evil/rotten at their core. Backblaze (and myself) are FIRMLY in favor of net neutrality because we have already been bitten by a vicious war between Comcast and Netflix. I hear you, and I am disgusted by the US broadband situation. Where residential broadband is limited, slow and expensive. If you use those code words usually they will explain how to get more bandwidth. Sometimes this is (ridiculously) called "business internet" or some such silly name where they pretend the only people who want faster connectivity are businesses. Or call up your local ISP and ask them if they have more bandwidth available. Try a Kinkos/FedEx office, or a local University, or any company of any size larger than maybe 5 employees will have plenty of bandwidth for you to upload a tiny 4 TBytes. Just drive anywhere in your area with more bandwidth, and upload it there. If you lack the bandwidth at your location, the solution is simple. Uploading to B2 is 100% free of charge, and with less than 4 TBytes you should be able to upload it in a few hours or maybe a few days? Just make sure you turn off all power savings modes on your computer and let it run for several days to complete the task. What about a single 4tb drive? Is there an option for something like that?įor a single 4 TByte drive, I would recommend uploading it.
